John Sackett, president and chief executive officer of Avista Adventist Hospital and long-time resident of Louisville, has accepted a position as president of a 331-bed hospital in Rockville, Maryland. Sackett will assume the position at Shady Grove Adventist Hospital, part of a system of Adventist hospitals, in April. During his 31 years in this community, he and his wife met and had two children—both of whom were born at Avista. Sue has worked alongside John as an advocate for Avista and has been a tireless volunteer in the community. Both of them are grateful for the wonderful friends and opportunities this community has provided to them. “Avista will always have a special place in our hearts,” says John.

If you’d like to send a message to the Sacketts, you can leave it below.

  4. Wouldn't be where I am had it not been your faith in me, John. So very appreciative and blessed I joined the Avista team and had you touch my life. Christmas parties will never be the same without you as it was always my favorite part and gives me the chills every time you played the Lord's prayer. Wishing you and Sue the happiest of days ahead of you in MD. - Connie J

  5. John-
I am so grateful I had the opportunity to know you the past 11 years. You truly made Avista a GREAT place to work. I will miss seeing you in the hall, and talking with you. I know you will shine on Shady Grove, and the people there will come to know what a wonderful, unique, caring person you are.......just as I did.
GOOD LUCK! I WILL MISS YOU!

  6. John (and family) -

Best wishes to you with both work and life adventures in a new part of the country. I am glad I had the chance to overlap with you here at Centura for a few years. My oldest son was born at Shady Grove when we lived in Maryland! You will be missed much in Colorado, but I'm sure you will also be a welcome presence in Maryland.

    Happy trails!

  7. Dear John (and family),

Congratulations on your new appointment! Maryland is so blessed and fortunate to have someone of your caliber coming to join them and lead them into a bright future.

You have done so many things for so many people here in Colorado – your absence will be palpable. You have (and always will) have my greatest admiration and respect.

Blessings to you and your family on your new endeavor!

  8. As a former Avista Community Board member and a neighbor I will miss John and his family. I was an executive at Corporate Express for years and yet learned some of the most valuable mgmt insights from John at our meetings. The most memorable leadership encouragement that I received from John was his constant reminders that everyone comes to work everyday and sincerely wants to do well...to do a good job. Akin to that, people want a higher mission and seek a higher goal than just money when working wherever they do. Our job as leaders is to articulate and illustrate to them the connection between their work and the overall service and mission of the organization no matter what their job description. John modeled that and made everyone feel important to the "cause". He's a great leader. I'll miss him.

  9. John, thank you for your leadership and your integrity. You have been such a positive influence on all of those who you have touched. I have worked for you the past 10 years and have learned much from your leadership style. I have not always agreed with your views on the world but you are always respectful and listen to others point of views. Good luck in your new journey, may it bring you happiness, new experiences that you will treasure in the years to come.

    Many blessings!!

  10. John,
Thank you so much for the leadership and genuine friendship that you have shared with us. I have had the honor of being a part of the Avista family since 2006. During my orientation, the first day I met you, I held up a lanyard full of ID badges that I had acquired as a traveling nurse early in my career. I stated at that "Share" meeting that the ID badges in my left hand were my past, and the Avista in my right hand was my future. I'm proud to say that this has held true. You, your family, and the vision that you all have shared has touched tens of thousands of lives. Your shoes will be impossible to fill. God Bless and Thank You.
